Water supplies for the conurbation of Brighton and Hove and surrounding area are entirely dependent on groundwater. These resources are under pressure from increasing demand and the risk of more severe future droughts.
Through the National Environment Programme, ecological and hydrogeological data collation and analysis has guided the development of conceptual and numerical models of the aquifer. Stochastic recharge time series representing both historic and projected future severe droughts and climate change scenarios have been considered to support resilient water resource investment and management plans for the next 25 years and beyond.

Mike Packman & Simon Cook (Southern Water)
Mike Packman has worked for Southern Water and its predecessor, the Southern Water Authority, for over 40 years. He provides technical leadership on hydrogeological, hydrological and ecological activities for the purpose of water resources planning, water production planning, asset management planning, operational issues, construction related issues and development projects.
Simon Cook is a hydrogeologist in the Water Resource Planning Team at Southern Water who are responsible for development of the statutory Water Resource Management Plan for the next 25 years and beyond. Prior to joining Southern Water Simon was a senior consultant in water management at Amec Foster Wheeler and holds an EngD in Hydrogeology.
