Library and Information Services

Library reopening

We are delighted to be able to reopen the Library to Fellows, Friends and Corporate Patrons from Thursday 10 September. Initially, our opening hours will be restricted to 11.00am to 3.00pm on Thursdays.

Access will be strictly by appointment, booked at least 48 hours in advance.

Otherwise, some Library staff are working from home and are available to answer any enquiries by email ( and phone (Tel: +44 (0)20 7434 9944, option 3), Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.30pm.

The following services are available:

  • Postal loans - borrow up to 6 books/maps by post
  • Document supply - scans of articles/chapters from journals and books
  • 'Click and Collect' - email us to arrange to collect loans/copies outside the Geological Society
  • Inter-Library loans - we can order books and papers from the British Library and elsewhere
  • Research/Enquiries - as well as helping with the Library's electronic resources we can advise where to find material. We are able to access some resources in addition to what you might find yourself online - just ask!
  • Database searches - we can search the GeoRef and Geofacets databases on your behalf and send you lists of references

We currently subscribe to over 600 journal titles from around the world.

The Library's dedicated staff are available to assist you with all your information needs.
