Our News

Field trips in 2018

The WRGS Summer Field Trip to Aust Cliff, Severn Crossing successfully went ahead. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it a fantastic day, particularly to our guide Dave Green from Geostudies.

Thank you all who attended the very successful WRG Autumn Field Trip to Hinkley Point C Construction site in September 2018.

This was a fantastic event which included a coach tour of construction site and presentations from guest speakers Jean-Philippe Morin (EDF Energy) and Michael Whitworth (AECOM) about the geology and geotechnical elements of the construction.

Thank you to our speakers and the amazing HPC tour guides.
Instead of an entry fee, HPC requested that we donate to their chosen charity Breast Cancer Now and over £145 was donated by our group; thank you everyone who attended!

So far in 2019

The year has barely start, but we have already been busy!

Hereford Sixth Form College and Cirenceter College entered this year's Western Regional Heat of the Schools Geology Challenge which was held at the Structural Soils Ltd offices in Bristol. Cirencester College were Victorious - but only by two points!

A huge congratulations to Cirencester College who will now go on to compete in the final at the National Schools Challenge at Burlington House.

The winner of the Western Regional Heat of the Early Careers Geologist Award is Wesley Dixon from Structural Soils Ltd.

Wesley’s talk centred around the use of electronic tablets and optical televiewers as logging aids during the Wylfa Ground investigations.

We wish Wesley luck at the upcoming Early Careers Award Finals which will be held at Burlington House.

The New CPD Scheme

The Presentation given by Glenys Rugman of the Geological Society Chartership Committee on 21/02/2017 is available to download.

It is important for Fellows to be aware of these changes:

"" The new Continuing Professional Development reporting system will soon be available on the Geological Society website.

""  Keeping up to date with CPD is not only a requirement for Chartership and post-Chartership, but is essential for all Fellows as part of our personal and professional development.

""  The Geological Society will be rolling out the online CPD system which will be easier and clearer to use.

""  This presentation will detail the changes of the new system and how to use it.
