Geoscientist Vacancy: Editor-in-Chief (Voluntary Role)
Duration: Five years, with option to extend for a further five years by mutual agreement
Location: Fully remote working
Compensation: This is an honorary role and no payment will be made (expenses for meeting attendance will be reimbursed)
Benefits: The Editor-in-Chief will be entitled to free access to the Lyell Collection for each calendar year of service and free print copies of the magazine
About the role:
Geoscientist is the quarterly Fellowship magazine of the Geological Society of London. It features a vibrant mix of science, opinion, news and more, and serves as a resource to the community, with articles that aim to stimulate thinking within and across fields of expertise.
Geoscientist is seeking an Editor-in-Chief to lead the editorial team from June 2024, and to help shape and deliver the magazine content over the next five years.
The Editor-in-Chief role is voluntary and requires a typical commitment of a day (~8 hours) per month. The role is fully remote, with contributions primarily achieved via email, with occasional meetings (in person or online) to liaise with the Editorial Team and Editorial Advisory Panel, review the magazine, and develop ideas for content. Additionally, at each Annual General Meeting of the Society, the Editor-in-Chief will report to the Fellows regarding the previous calendar year’s performance of Geoscientist.
