Membership & Chartership

Membership services during COVID-19 closure

In light of the ongoing risk posed to public health by COVID-19 and advice from the UK government, the Society’s offices in London and Bath are now closed until 31 August 2020.

Throughout the Society's closure, our membership services staff will continue working remotely and providing services as close to normal as possible.

They are available to answer any enquiries relating to membership and Chartership by email (membership@geolsoc.org.uk) and telephone (+44 (0)20 7434 9944 - option 1 for membership and option 2 for Chartership), Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.30pm.

Chartership

With the current difficulties of holding face-to-face meetings for Chartership, we are currently looking at alternative solutions and will provide further information shortly. Fellows wishing to apply for Chartership should continue to do so as normal, using electronic file transfer and keeping in mind that interviews may need to be conducted at a date later than advertised.

Membership renewal for 2020

If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2020, you can do so using the usual methods as explained on our renewals page.

New applications for membership

Please apply as normal using the MyGSL portal. If you wish to complete an offline application, please email your completed form to membership@geolsoc.org.uk.

Please try to avoid sending anything by post during our office closure. If you are unable to pay by card, you may wish to pay by bank transfer - you can obtain our details by calling our main membership number (as listed above).

The Geological Society offers geoscientists continuity and support through every phase of scientific and professional life.

Membership brings many benefits, including professional recognition. Fellows are entitled to the letters FGS after their name and Chartered Geologists can add the postnominal CGeol.

All Fellows receive our monthly magazine, Geoscientist, a choice of free access to Society journals from the Lyell Collection, discounted publications and meeting fees and access to our world-class geological library. In addition, all Fellows have access to our online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme.
