North Hertfordshire is not famed for its local stone, and most traditional buildings used brick or sometimes flint. More important buildings needed dressed stone for windows, doorways and decoration. This was usually brought in from more distant parts of East Anglia.

Modern buildings use mainly brick and concrete. However, they are often enhanced by facing stones brought from all over the world. Take a walk around the town centre with a geologist to discover some of the exotic stones used.

This event will be repeated on Wednesday 14 October at 11am
