The University of Leeds has put together a diverse and exciting scientific programme for the 54th annual conference of the Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group, built around the themes of ‘Volcanic Arcs’, ‘Rifts, Islands and Intraplate Volcanism’, ‘Beyond the Vent’ and ‘Explosive Ideas’. These highlight the latest developments and advances in volcanology, showcasing the cutting edge of cross-disciplinary research in the UK geosciences and with a strong emphasis on research student contributions.

The conference will be held at the Leeds City Museum in the heart of Leeds City Centre on Millennium Square, with a meet-and-greet at the Cuthbert Brodrick, ice-breaker and poster session in the museum’s Life on Earth Gallery, and conference dinner and party at the Leeds Marriott Hotel. Leeds boasts the 4th largest urban centre and economy in the UK and as well as being a legal, financial and manufacturing hub offers extensive nightlife, shopping, culture, sports and transport links. Many bars, cafés, clubs and hotels are located within easy walking distance of the conference venue.

Post-conference workshops for students and Early Career Researchers focus on PhD writing and publishing, diffusion modelling in crystal systems, volcano seismology, and InSAR theory, practice and applications.

Abstract deadline: 30/11/17
