Buxton is one of seven centres in the Derbyshire White Peak that have thermal springs although the warmest and the strongest flows occur in Buxton.
Rick Brassington will describe the properties of the thermal water and give his ideas of how the springs were formed and how long they have existed. He will also give a little of the history of the way that Buxton has developed as a spa town.
Rick has been involved in the Crescent project since 2003 and is one of a team of hydrogeologists who investigated the thermal system in Buxton to enable the Crescent building to be modernized and turned into a five-star spa hotel.
Fortunately, the Crescent project is almost at an end from the thermal water point of view and the refurbished hotel should be open by Christmas this year.
