To support the geoscience community during the COVID-19 crisis, a number of publishers and organisations have made material free to researchers.

Springer Nature has made a number of textbooks available for free until at least the end of July 2020.  Titles which may be of interest include:

Royal Society Publishing

All Royal Society journal content is freely available until further notice. This includes Philosophical Transactions A: Physical Sciences and Philosophical Transactions B: Life Sciences.

EDP Sciences Journals

EDP Sciences has opened the journals content on their site from 2018-2020 so it is freely available for all to read. This includes Metallurgical Research & Technology. The Open Access journals BSGF Earth Sciences and Oil & Gas Science and Technology can also be found there.

Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences

Canadian Science Publishing is providing articles from their journal publications, including Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, on an on-demand basis to institutions that subscribe to their journals. If you require access to an article please contact us on and we will arrange a pdf copy for you.

Lyell Collection

Special Publications, Memoirs and Engineering Geology Special Publications online access via the Book Archive

Fellows are reminded that in addition to online journal access through the Lyell Collection, you receive free access to the Society’s online Book Archive of over 500 e-books including Special Publications, Memoirs and Engineering Geology Special Publications published prior to the current and three previous calendar years.

Online access to volumes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the Petroleum Geology Conference Series is also available.

Open Access collection

380+ Open Access papers are available on the Lyell Collection and are free to download. All of these papers were originally published in the Lyell Collection Complete.

Year of Life collection

This collection of 20+ Open Access papers, part of the Society’s Year of Life 2020, aims to collate recent and seminal papers that cover the breadth of geoscience research into the impacts, or the effects of, life on Earth and beyond.
