Following on from our commended half day seminar on communicating controversial geoscience, Envireau Knowledge is thrilled to be hosting a full one-day program, again facilitated by Dr Hazel Gibson with the assistance of Professor Iain Stewart (both from Plymouth University), on how to communicate key geoscience challenges to the public.

Hazel’s and Iain’s research interests are in public perception of geology and how to communicate the hazards and risks associated with commercial activities below the ground.

In this exclusive event, we will explore how through understanding the public’s view of what lies beneath our feet, we can improve the way that we communicate about controversial geological issues, and increase the chance of a quicker, positive outcome for developments.

Hazel and Iain will explore the space between the public’s personal experience and misconceptions, and demonstrate how the gap can be used to gain a greater understanding of the public perceptions of geoscience. Following a session explaining the links behind perception, misconception and geology, an interactive session will draw from the personal experience of the attendees, as well as current research into geoscience communication, to develop strategies for effective engagement.
