Unfortunately due to the ongoing public health risk posed by COVID-19, this conference has been cancelled.

This conference is open to all female and female-identifying Earth scientists, to discuss the current frontiers in Earth science research and celebrate the role of women in our diverse and varied field.

WiES 2020 is an experiment to see if the atmosphere at such an event is different to that at standard conferences. There is a large body of evidence which shows that when women are in a conference-style setting with men, they ask fewer questions and engage less.

The organisers would like to see if a women-only event would enable an atmosphere of increased engagement and better performance. They will carry out a thorough impact assessment of this event which they will publicise via their website and through a short journal article.
