We will examine geological / geomorphological aspects of the Arun Gap through the South Downs by walking a linear route from Pulborough to Arundel via Amberley. It will, therefore, be a walk of 2 halves.
Please arrive by car, train or bus at Pulborough railway station well before 10.00 a.m. for a morning walk of c.6 miles across the Wealden strata towards the Gap at the ridge village of Amberley, (lunch at the village tearooms as pub has recently closed), where members may leave or join the group, before the same mileage walk in the afternoon through the Gap to the historic town of Arundel, via a deeply-incised dry-valley system, arriving in time for tea about 4.00 p.m.
Train service returns you to Pulborough for your vehicle.

Anthony Brook, who lives in Worthing, has led the Annual Downland Fieldwalk, on the last Sunday of June, for the West Sussex Geological Society for the last 12 years, exploring the intricate landforms and landscapes of the Adur-Arun bloc of the South Downs, from the Adur Gap to the Arun Gap through the South Downs.
