Visitors to the GSNI Core Store will be able to view an impressive collection of rocks from across Northern Ireland. The store holds a national archive of rock samples including 20 kilometres of rock core, and in excess of 150,000 rock specimens and geochemical samples. Some of these rocks come from depths as much as 2.5 km below the surface and the collection holds rocks that represent 600 million years of Earth’s history, from deserts, mountain building events, fiery volcanoes, swampy deltas, salty lakes and the tropical seas that Northern Ireland has experienced during this time.

Tours are suitable for most ages from young teen and up. Younger children are welcome to attend and there will be some activities for them. 

Time and date

Tours at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00. Saturday 14th October.

Cost

Free, but please book in advance. Total number of places per tour will be limited to 20. Free parking is available.
