We have a variety of hands on activities in our workshop looking at:

  • sorting and classifying rocks and minerals
  • how fossils are formed
  • identifying different fossils
  • how soils are formed

We will introduce the idea of plate tectonics using maps and how this links into the location of volcanoes and earthquakes. We will use role play to act out how different seismic waves move through the crust in an earthquake, and make our own volcanic eruption using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

The activities will be followed by a local walk along the Jurassic Coast, stopping off at some old quarries to do some fossil hunting.

Target audience

Year Three (ages 7-8)

Time and date

Between 9am and 5pm on Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th October

Cost

£300 a day for a school
