GeoMon (Anglesey) Geopark are running an event for Earth Science Week.
Anglesey has every type of plate tectonic margin and material. After a short talk, we will be visiting Llanddwyn island (a complete mini-plate) to see the Precambrian pillow lavas on the beach, underlain by the initial exploded lava and ash. Then, on to the shaley material from mid-plate deposition, followed by the melange at the World type site. We will then take a trip into the forest to see the altered lavas and cherts.
The heritage, archaeology, myths and legend of St Dwynwen, Welsh patron saint of lovers, will be described, plus many other features. Packed lunch will take place on the island, followed by a visit to the Precambrian blueschists under the Marquess of Anglesey's Column.
