The Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB) and the Earth Science Teachers’ Association (ESTA) are delighted to announce that Prof. Dougal Jerram will deliver a lecture for schools to mark Earth Science Week 2015

2015 marks 200 years since the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia. This is the largest observed eruption recorded by humans, ranking a 7 (or “super-colossal”) on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. Prof. Jerram is a volcano enthusiast who has used books, scientific papers, journals and television programmes to introduce as many people as possible to these explosive events.

The event will include opportunities for attendees to meet Dougal and chat informally. Winners of the national Earth Science Competition for Schools 2015, based on the 1815 volcanic eruption of Tambora, will also be announced during the event. The lecture will be suitable for science/geography students in Years 10-13 and is free to any interested parties.
