Thematic special issues from e-journals which the Library provides offsite access to for Fellows using 'Athens' logins are listed below. Open Access special issues which require no passwords are also listed.

Rock mechanics and rock engineeringSelected contributions from the 51st US Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium held in San Francisco, California from 25 to 28 June, 2017

Rock mechanics and rock engineering vol.51 issue 12 Pages 3645-3984 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

This issue contains eight papers from the 51st US Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium held in San Francisco from 25 to 28 June, 2017. The papers concentrate on balancing experimental work with theoretical interpretation, and include field work as well as fundamental calculations.

Palaeogeography, palaeoclimatology, palaeoecologyStudies in paleobiology and paleoecology in Honor of Professor David J. Bottjer

Palaeogeography, palaeoclimatology, palaeoecology vol.513 Pages 1-214 (1 January 2019)
Athens login required.

This guest-edited volume comprises 16 studies by former and current students of David Bottjer’s in recognition of his contributions to palaeoenvironmental geology. It presents new findings on organism-substrate interactions; palaeoecological effects of environmental change; early animal fossils; and the evolution of Mesozoic birds.

GeobiosFirst Workshop on Iberian Palaeobotany and Palynology

Geobios vol.51 no.6 Pages 489-604 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

This thematic issue contains the key papers presented at the first workshop on Iberian Palaeobotany and Palynology, held at the Botanical Garden of Cordoba on February 22, 2017. The eight papers in this issue are based on the Iberian fossil record or on established collaborations between international and Iberian palaeobotanical and/or palynological research groups, in order to provide a broad overview of the research focus of the different Iberian teams.

LithosAbyss

Lithos vol.323 Pages 1-276 (15 December 2018)
Athens login required.

This volume brings together a series of articles on the role of transport of magmatic melts and hydrothermal fluids through the oceanic lithosphere, and their feed-back on its physical and (bio-)chemical properties.

Earth-science reviewsReconstruction of East Asian Continental Blocks in Pangea

Earth-science reviews vol.186 Pages 1-286 (November 2018)
Athens login required.

This special issue contains papers summarising data and interpretations and presenting models for reconstructions of the East Asian continental blocks in Pangea. These are based on the results of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Program which carried out extensive field-based geological and palaeomagnetic investigations on the East Asian blocks and their intervening mountain belts, and produced large amounts of data and competing interpretations, which provide constraints on the palaeogeographic evolution of the East Asian blocks from the breakup of Rodinia to the assembly of Pangea.

Ore geology reviewsSpecial Issue on the Metallogeny of the Russian Far East

Ore geology reviews vol.103 Pages 1-78 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

This volume contains five articles discussing some of the principal aspects of selected mineral systems of the Russian Far East. Most of the articles are devoted to deposits of precious metals. It also focuses on polymetallic skarn deposits, and some aspects of the genesis of rare-earth mineralization in lignite.

Precambrian researchDescent into the Cryogenian

Precambrian research vol.319 Pages 1-220 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

The motivation for this special volume was to provide up-to-date data from key successions globally that preserve the Tonian–Cryogenian transition in order to guide future selection of the basal Cryogenian Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP). Additional contributions in this volume highlight advances in understanding of the temporal relationship between Cryogenian glaciation and oxygenation of the oceans.

Journal of geochemical explorationRegional exploration and environmental geochemistry in Italy and China

Journal of geochemical exploration vol.195 Pages 1-178 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

This volume documents case studies from researchers of critical materials in China and environmental topics in Italy. It contains six papers on mineral deposit exploration and seven papers on environmental topics.

Journal of Asian earth sciencesSouth China Sea Seep

Journal of Asian earth sciences vol.168 Pages 1-224 (December 2018)
Athens login required.

This special issue includes 20 papers investigating methane inventories, fluxes and the role of the South China Sea Seep in the carbon cycle and biodiversity. The seep studies in this special issue set the stage for a new investigation of the interplay between carbon cycling and climate change.

TectonophysicsUnderstanding geological processes through modelling

Tectonophysics vol.746 Pages 1-716 (30 October 2018)
Athens login required.

This special issue summarises recent advances in all aspects of numerical modelling of solid Earth processes. There are cross-disciplinary contributions from modellers and observers presenting a comprehensive cross-section of the rapidly growing geodynamic modelling field. The volume contains 44 articles with state-of-the-art modelling that span all scales and most topics in Geodynamic modelling.

Geoscience frontiersTimescales of geological processes

Geoscience frontiers vol.10 issue 1 Pages 1-360 (January 2019)
No login required.

The first part of this issue contains 13 papers relating to the timescales of geologic processes, from rapid fluid flow to long-term evolution of the continental crust. They are derived from presentations given at the TIGeR Conference on 13-15 September, 2017 at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. Details of the presentations and abstracts can be found on the Institute for Geoscience Research website (TIGeR Conference 2017).
