Professor Zhongli Ding

Zhongli DingProfessor Zhongli Ding is one of the few leading scientists in loess studies. For the past two decades he has focused his research on the palaeoclimatic evolution of East Asia during the late Cenozoic and its linkage to global ice-volume changes. His achievements and many innovative results derived mainly from the Chinese loess have been published in highly-ranked international journals and are widely cited. In recent years Professor Ding has made a particularly important contribution to the strengthening of the broad field of geosciences in China; his leadership in launching a number of national research programmes has served to advance the country’s sustainable development efforts with benefits for society as a whole. Amongst other positions, he is Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress, President of the Chinese Association for Quaternary Research and Chairman of the Chinese National Committee for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme.
