Aims
The History of Geology Group (HOGG) was inaugurated in October 1994 to encourage interest in the lives and work of those scientists and philosophers who influenced both the study and the practice of geology. HOGG is open to anyone with an interest in the history of geology, and the events and personalities that have shaped the way in which it is studied and practiced today.
HOGG is managed and run by a committee of its members and the current chair is Dick Moody. HOGG is affiliated to the Geological Society of London and many of its meetings are held in the Society's apartments at Burlington House in London.
Membership
It is not necessary to be a Fellow of the Society to join HOGG, and membership is open to anyone interested in the subject at a subscription of only £15 per calendar year. Applications and a cheque for £15 for the first year or part year, payable to HOGG, should be sent to the Treasurer, (and NOT to the Secretary, please!): Beris Cox, c/o The Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG.
The group is currently engaged on a project to interview older Fellows of the Geological Society, to capture their recollections in an audio archive. If you joined the Society before 1960, we would be delighted if you would take part.
