The Anthropocene has, in the past fifteen years, grown from obscurity to a concept that is now widely used across the not just the sciences, but also the social sciences, arts and humanities, to express the idea that humans are changing not just the environment, but the course of planetary history too.

At it its heart, though, lies a solid body of geological evidence, encompassing litho-, chemo- and biostratigraphy.  This talk will review the geology of the Anthropocene, and look ahead to see what new directions of research may develop around it.
