Press reports constantly refer to sinkholes whenever the ground moves, but is this correct?

This talk will examine a range of examples that have occurred over recent years and explain the character of true sinkholes. The material will include consideration of the geology and land use setting. The range of typical triggers will be reviewed as well as the implications for SUDS, in terms of factors that need to be considered, if subsidence problems are to be avoided.

Finally, using case studies, a variety of sinkholes that have caused damage in various places will be discussed to illustrate the scale and range of problems.
