Dr. Owen Naughton (National University of Ireland, Galway) will describe the key causes and characteristics of groundwater flooding in lowland karst terrains, using examples from the unprecedented flooding events which occurred in south Galway, Ireland, during 2009 and 2015.

His talk will explore the dual role played by groundwater flooding as both a flood hazard and a supporting condition for groundwater-dependent ecosystems in the Irish glacial karst landscape.
