A talk by Professor Eddie Bromhead - "Landslides, Dams, Landslide-Dams and Hydroelectric Generation in the Dolomites of NE Italy"

The talk will be preceded by a short presentation on the key features and benefits of RoGEP by Jim Cook (RoGEP Panel Chairman). The main presentation will give a set of reflections on landslides, landslide dams and man-made dams as part of hydroelectric schemes in the Venetian Pre-Alps, sometimes known as the Dolomites, and how they impact on each other, sometimes with tragic consequences. The area contains the remnants of the Vaiont Reservoir, noted for the disastrous landslide and flood of October 1963.

Time

6.00pm for a 6.30pm start

Speaker

Professor Eddie Bromhead

After graduating from Portsmouth in 1969, Eddie worked for London-based consulting engineers and then for most of his career at Kingston University where he rose to become a Professor. Eddie retired from academic employment in January 2012. He is known for his consulting work and publications, his ring shear machine, and is no stranger to controversy as he is often outspoken and has a perverse sense of humour.

Currently he fills his life with inter alia writing, more consulting and expert witness work, continuing to work with the Regional Group of the IStructE, local politics, some software development and being Chief Scientific Editor of QJEGH.

He was the 2011 12th Glossop Lecturer, and has aspirations to become a non-technical writer.
