2017 International Earth Science Olympiad

The International Earth Science Olympiad is an annual competition for secondary school students with the aim of encouraging students’ interest and public awareness of Earth Science and enhancing their Earth science learning.

The IESO tests students skills in all major areas of Earth sciences, including geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, terrestrial astronomy and environmental sciences. Students must take part in theoretical examinations including problems which are supposed to measure the participants’ knowledge and understanding of Earth science areas,  practical examinations consisting of tasks designed to assess participants’ abilities to carry out scientific investigations in Earth science inquiries and a team field investigation.
