The Geological Society introduces its new Outreach and Community Grants, expanding its funds and bursaries for geoscientists.
We offer a wide range of funding opportunities for individuals at different stages of their careers and working on a variety of activities, such as research, professional development and public engagement.
Science communication in a variety of formats is becoming increasingly important to inform and empower a range of audiences. That is why our latest addition to our funding opportunities is the Outreach and Community Grants, which seek to support public engagement, policy and community projects focused on geoscience topics. These grants aim to increase the diversity of representation across the geosciences, raise public awareness of the importance of the field, and improve accessibility.
We currently offer two grants under this category:
Outreach Small Grants
Available to applications up to £250 to assist with the running of events that align with the annual theme of Earth Science Week (11 – 17 October 2026).
The cycle opens on 1 August, and all applications must be submitted by 17 October 2026.
Outreach Grant
Available for proposals up to £1500, with no minimum award, to support a broad range of geoscience-related public engagement, policy or community projects.
Applications open 4 January 2027.
Discover our Outreach and Community GrantsWe welcome all creative and innovative ideas to promote the geosciences through a range of formats, methods and audiences. We want to support projects that create valuable experiences and take creative approaches to public engagement, whether with the public, communities or policymakers.
The new grant, in combination with the Small Outreach Grants, complement the range of research and professional development funding opportunities that the Geological Society already offers both its members and the wider community.
