
The Geological Society Picture Library contains hundreds of drawings, prints, maps and book illustrations from the Society’s Library and Archive collections.
Whether it is Mount Vesuvius erupting in 1794, the fossil discoveries of Mary Anning, the works of William Smith or even the world’s largest pearl, the Library’s unrivalled collections cover all aspects of Earth sciences.


Requesting a digital image
Images can be requested by contacting the Library, stating the title and image reference from the Geological Society Library Picture Library where applicable, and your intended use. We will then ask you to complete a permissions form, which will either state that the image is supplied for private research or for publication, broadcast, exhibition, website purposes (which may be subject to an additional fee).
