Glossop Award Presentation & Medal Lecture - Engineering Group (EGGS)

This year’s Glossop Award Presentation and Medal Lecture will form part of the XV IAEG World Congress in Delft, The Netherlands, bringing the Engineering Group of the Geological Society’s flagship Glossop event to an international audience. The main event will take place at TU Delft during the Congress, with a livestream shown at Burlington House for those attending in London.

The event offers an opportunity for attendees in Delft and London to celebrate excellence across the engineering geology community, connect with the wider IAEG Congress programme, and engage with current thinking on geohazards, groundwater, ground engineering and the future of the discipline.

The Delft event commences from 5pm local time whilst the London event starts from 4pm local time.

The programme will open with the Glossop Award Presentation by Rowshi Hussain, recipient of this year’s Glossop Award, highlighting emerging talent and new work in engineering geology. This will be followed by the Glossop Medal Lecture presented by Ann Williams, the 2026 Glossop Medal recipient, whose lecture, “Dewatering: where science meets art”, will explore the role of dewatering in safe and resilient construction below the water table, drawing on case studies and experience from engineering geology practice.

Ann Williams

Based in New Zealand, Ann Williams has built an outstanding career spanning more than 35 years, with projects across New Zealand, Australia, South-east Asia and the Pacific. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for engineering geology and a values-driven, strategic approach to leadership.

Rowshi Hussain

Rowshi Hussain is a Chartered Geologist and Geoenvironmental Engineer at Cundall, specialising in ground investigation, coal mining legacy risk and complex geotechnical and geoenvironmental challenges. Her work with borehole image logging supports improved ground characterisation and more informed engineering decisions, alongside her contributions to research, CIRIA and professional excellence.
