Connecting geoscience, policy and practice across the energy transition
Geoscience is central to delivering the energy transition and achieving Net Zero. As governments, regulators and industry respond to the demands of decarbonisation, geoscientific evidence is becoming increasingly important in decisions relating to energy storage, hydrogen, geothermal systems, carbon capture and storage, floating offshore wind, critical minerals for renewable energy technologies, and the planning and regulation of subsurface development.
This conference will bring together interdisciplinary geoscientists, policy professionals, regulators, industry leaders and researchers to discuss how geoscience informs policy and practice across the energy transition. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, the meeting will examine the scientific, regulatory and strategic questions shaping emerging energy technologies and resource systems, and explore how geoscientists can better contribute their knowledge and expertise to the policy arena.
The event will consider how geoscience supports evidence-informed decision-making across the energy transition. It will explore the policy and governance challenges associated with deploying emerging energy technologies at scale, and the role of geoscientists in supporting responsible, secure and sustainable energy systems.
Key themes will include subsurface energy storage, hydrogen, geothermal energy, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), floating offshore wind, critical minerals for renewable energy technologies, and the integration of geoscientific evidence into planning, regulation and policy development. The conference will provide a forum for cross-sector dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration between the geoscience community and those shaping the policy and practice of the energy transition.
