'GeoFutures' is the Geological Society of London’s flagship conference series focussing on 21st century geoscience and solutions that geoscientists can offer to global challenges. In 2026, the series focusses on the theme of Critical Minerals as a crucial element of the Energy Transition.

The meeting will bring together the community working along the critical minerals value chain, and discuss new approaches that will inform development of global critical minerals supply over the coming decade. The meeting will seek to foster collaboration within a broad interdisciplinary group and aims to cultivate networks and research partnerships and spark innovative ideas to shape the response of geoscientists to future issues.

The conference will consider key themes including:

  • Innovation in understanding critical mineral systems and deposit geology
  • New approaches to critical mineral exploration and targeting
  • Geometallurgy, downstream processing and implications for mineral processing
  • Circular economy along the mining value chain
  • ESG and minimising environmental impact
  • Supply chain mapping and minerals intelligence

  • Kathryn Goodenough, British Geological Survey
  • Karen Hudson-Edwards, Camborne School of Mines
  • Sarah Gordon, Satarla and Imperial College London
  • Nick Gardiner, University of St. Andrews
