The Earth is warming, with changes in our climate being of global concern. These challenges are tensioned by the fact that the Earth’s energy hungry population is growing and, in some cases, migrating into areas exposed to a range of life- and infrastructure-threatening geohazards. The role of geosciences in our present and future cannot be understated, given it helps us: (i) understand how the Earth’s climate has changed over approximately 4.6 billion years ago, and how this has controlled the habitability of our planet and its associated biodiversity; (ii) locate and produce natural resources; and (iii) identify and mitigate a range of geohazards. Chris Jackson
Technical Director at the engineering consultancy WSP and Visiting Professor of Basin Analysis at Imperial College London
Chris works in the general area of sedimentary basin analysis. When not studying the subsurface of the Earth, Chris gives geoscience lectures to the public and in schools, having appeared on several, Earth Science-focused, television productions and podcasts. Chris is engaged in efforts to improve equality, diversity, and inclusivity in Higher Education.
