Lieutenant Ralph Stockman Hawtrey

Biography:

Ralph Stockman Hawtrey, son of Montagu Hawtrey of Shanghai and stepson of the Rev William Campbell Penney, Elizabeth College, Guernsey, was a mining engineer by profession, and member of the South Wales Institute of Engineers when he was elected a Fellow of the Society in December 1912. He was killed in action whilst serving with the Royal Engineers (179th Tunnelling Coy) on 3 September 1916. 

Cemetery: Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
