Energy Geoscience Conference series

The Energy Geoscience Conference series succeeds the former Petroleum Geology Conference series and comprises a sequence of edited and peer-reviewed volumes arising from the conferences. Oriented towards the energy transition, volumes will explore understanding, technologies, lessons learned and subsurface insights across the full sphere of energy geoscience.

The proceedings volumes can be purchased in print through the online bookshop, online booksellers and the major library suppliers in North America.

EGC Proceedings are included in the Lyell Collection, the Geological Society’s online collection of all key content published since 1845. Papers are posted ‘Online First’ as they are accepted.

Powering the Energy Transition through Subsurface Collaboration: Proceedings of the 1st Energy Geoscience Conference

This volume contains a series of articles exploring themes ranging broadly across the energy geosciences, aiming to share insights and techniques between different subsurface applications. Exploration-orientated contributions address a broad range of examples, ranging from individual UK Continental Shelf fields and prospects to broad regional evaluations, assessment of CO2 and hydrogen storage potential and exploration for hydrogen, helium and lithium. Containment-related articles cover nuclear waste sequestration, well abandonment and regional seal assessments for CO2 storage. Papers addressing CO2 storage examine several planned North Sea storage sites in depleted gas fields with storage modelling and geophysical applications using and examining overlapping evaluation techniques used for oil and gas projects. Heat recovery and thermal storage in mine-water reservoirs are covered by several contributions. This collection of articles is intended to highlight the cross-sectoral application of subsurface understanding and evaluation approaches and, in doing so, to engender collaboration across the energy geosciences.
