The Hong Kong Regional Group partnered with the Hong Kong Space Museum to deliver two public lecture series, consisting of eight sessions in total, focusing on climate change and its effects on the Antarctic and Arctic regions to complement films screened at the Museum’s Space Theatre. Each session attracted over 50 participants.
In December 2024, the “Climate Change and Antarctica” series highlighted the continent’s role in understanding Earth’s climate history. Topics covered deep-water volcanism, melting ice sheets, rising sea levels, and the impact of marine plastic pollution on greenhouse gas emissions.
The “Unveiling the Arctic: Then and Now” series, which concluded in August 2025, looked into the region’s geological past, indigenous shelter-building methods, and climate change’s effects on global food systems, whilst addressing the environmental and geopolitical challenges of Arctic mining.
