The Hong Kong Regional Group recently enjoyed a visit to the revitalised Lin Ma Hang Lead Mine site in Robin’s Nest Country Park in northeast Hong Kong.
On Saturday 22 November 2025 in glorious autumnal weather, The Hong Kong Regional Group enjoyed a visit to the revitalised Lin Ma Hang Lead Mine site nestled deep within the spectacular landscape of the Robin’s Nest Country Park in northeast Hong Kong. After a short bus trip from Sheung Shui along the old frontier area and the upper reaches of the Sham Chun River, we assembled in the 800 year old Lin Ma Hang village at the foot of the “998” stair climb to the Kong Shan Mackintosh Fort, and then descended to the old mine cavern and upper mine workings. Within the cavern and atrium setting, project geologists from Meinhardt Infrastructure & Environment Limited explained the background to the CEDD led AFCD project, history and geology of the mine, some of the NTHA, rock slope, LiDAR and other investigations leading to engineering designs/works to improve the safety of the accessible mine area for public access and educational purposes. The participants were highly interactive with the presenters fielding questions ranging across mining heritage, mineralisation models, geomorphological settings, World War II military history, resource geopolitics, engineering techniques and artificial cladding design.
The perfect autumn morning workout for both body and mind – to an innovative HKSAR Government project to “make safe” a mining heritage site for educational and recreational purposes of the community-at-large.
