By rivers, Herefordshire

Here, the water seems tranquil in the middle part of the course of the river Wye in the Welsh borders. However, it is still flowing fast enough to move sand particles and mud carried in suspension. When in flood, it moves much larger particles along the river bed as well.

During floods, the river continues to carve out its valley. It mostly erodes at the outside of river bends where the flow is fastest, cutting into the hillsides to gradually widen the valley floor.
