Full Description
The geographical spread of UK earthworks and the diversity of geology result in a wide range of materials being excavated or filled to construct these earthworks. Therefore, the design and construction of these frequent structures require considerable knowledge of material properties and behaviours. This book is intended to give a ‘to hand’ routine accessible reference to cover these points. The book covers new build earthworks only, principally rail, road and building developments. The six chapters take the reader from design fundamentals to implementation, and the strategy and controls for construction. A collection of case histories is presented and key points to takeaway are highlighted.
United Kingdom geology and good practice are the main foci of the information and knowledge contained in the book although the technical principles described are used in most parts of the world so this book can be seen in that international context.
This book is written for practising engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers and materials engineers.
