This memoir provides an unparalleled summary of the geology and hydrocarbon potential of all prospective sedimentary successions of the Arctic, featuring contributions from 159 authors representing all Arctic nations, Germany and the UK. The successions are organized into 74 ‘tectono-sedimentary elements’ and their assemblages, according to deformational and lithostratigraphic characteristics and they are described in an easy-to-navigate standardized framework.

The book aims to present current knowledge of the undeformed and moderately deformed sedimentary accumulations in the region and to offer an overview of hydrocarbon-related exploration activities in the Arctic at the end of the first quarter of this century.

The memoir includes three introductory chapters and 63 descriptive data-rich and well-illustrated chapters organized into six sections within the two printed volumes. There are six small-scale foldout maps (Enclosures A to E) portraying the distribution of the documented sedimentary accumulations in the Circum-Arctic geographical context, their expressions in anomalous gravity and magnetic fields, the tectonic grain of the basement and location of Arctic sampling sites and seismic profiles.
