What role have oceanic gateways played in linking plate tectonics, ocean circulation, climate change and sedimentary basin evolution throughout Earth’s history?
This volume addresses this fundamental question through a multidisciplinary synthesis of modern and ancient gateway systems. Contributions from international researchers in oceanography, palaeoceanography, sedimentology, marine geology, tectonics and geophysics examine how the opening, closure and evolution of oceanic gateways have governed water-mass exchange, driven climate transitions, influenced deep-water sedimentation and shaped sedimentary basins from the geological past to the present.
