This booklet is the first comprehensive account of the geology of South Mayo, Western Ireland, for over 100 years and is accompanied by the only large-scale (1:63,360) colour printed geological map of the area ever produced.

It describes the South Mayo trough of Ordovician and Silurian rocks, the older bounding rocks to the north and south in the Clew Bay area and Connemara, and the younger Devonian and Carboniferous rocks to the east. Included are Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea, the Partry Mountains, Joyces Country, Loughs Corrib and the Mask with indications of fossil localities, major structures and stratigraphies and geological history.

It constitutes an ideal field guide and an authoritative summary of the geology of a key region of great importance in the British –Irish Caledonides.
