Charlotte Murchison's field notebook, 1835

Charlotte diary wmk

Extract from Charlotte Murchison’s field notebook, for the period of 3rd-6th July 1835.
 (ref: LDGSL/840/4, pp176-177)

Charlotte accompanied her husband on his various geological trips around country when her health allowed. Like all good geologists, she kept her own fieldbook in which she noted down where she had visited and anything interesting she had observed – including the famous Tortworth Sweet Chestnut Tree, which still survives and is thought to be around 1000 years old.
