Summer fieldtrip

We have arranged a fantastic opportunity to visit Woodsmith Mine, situated in Whitby. Sirius Minerals are currently constructing the worlds largest Polyhalite Mine and have kindly agreed to offer a restricted access tour of their current construction activities with a tailored presentation to offer greater insight.

Itinerary

  • Travel from Leeds via coach (exact time and location TBC)
  • Arrive at Robin Hoods Bay to explore the coastline’s geological history and maybe even discover some well-preserved fossils
  • Lunch (time will be allocated to visit the local fish and chip shop, alternatively you can bring your own packed lunch)
  • Head over to Woodsmith Mine for a presentation provided by Sirius Minerals with a tour of the current construction activities
  • Return journey to Leeds

Please note: Due to the nature of this trip, standard PPE will be needed to maintain safety. A helmet lanyard has also been specified (by Sirius Minerals) which YRGGS have kindly agreed to provide. Full PPE requirements will follow.

Contact Details: If you would like to take part please contact Gemma Hickingbotham (Fieldtrip Officer) at [email protected].

Due to anticipated interest participation will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. A small deposit may also be required to secure your place (details to follow).
