Professor David Norbury

Event details

The Western Regional Group is pleased to welcome Professor Norbury who will explain the changes to the new revision of Eurocode 7 and their implications.

The current version of EN 1997-2 was published in 2007 and implemented into national practice in 2010. So, that was written over 15 years ago, and a lot has changed in the industry and practices since then. Not least we have got used to following these high-level Standards. Over the last five years or so, the EN 1997 suite has been undergoing major revision, which is now drawing to a close. The new versions will be published in about 2023 for implementation thereafter. One of the major changes is that Part 1 Design of geotechnical structures has been split into two parts, so the new EC7 will come in three volumes. During this talk, the content of the current drafts will be summarised. The revisions to Part 2 are substantial – starting with the document title - and these will be presented. Professor Norbury led the re-drafting group and will outline the thought process as to why and how the main changes were arrived at.
