WMRG: Solihull Heat Network Project
Organised by:
West Midlands Regional Group
Venue:
Solihull College, Solihull
Event status:
EVENT CLOSED
- Tapping into the heat energy from an underlying reservoir
- Target audience: A-level students
Solihull Council, supported by Solihull College, is pleased to invite A-level students to attend a free Earth Science Week STEM event. The event follows the completion of a test borehole in Tudor Grange Park; drilled to investigate whether water from an aquifer beneath Solihull town centre might be a viable source of heat to supply an energy network.
An energy or heat network – sometimes called district heating – is a distribution system of insulated pipes that takes heat from a central source and delivers it to a number of domestic or non-domestic buildings. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions and offer a long-term, affordable source of heat to town centre buildings.
The event will look at the following:
- Geological history of the area and how the aquifer was formed
- How we investigate ground water sources
- Borehole drilling in Tudor Grange Park
- What is an energy network?
- The engineering steps in developing an energy network
There will also be an opportunity to speak to experts working in science, technology and engineering disciplines about career opportunities and key subjects.
