The Indian Geological Congress is at the forefront among the learned associations in the field of geosciences in India and traditionally offers the biggest platform to debate relevant Geosciences topics and geological issues of national importance. This time, its scientific programme will focus on the needs of the Northeastern Region, particularly the identification and promotion of geoheritage.

The official language of the Convention will be English.

Sub-Themes

  • Basin Hydrology & Water resources of the Northeastern Region & their ethical development, utilization & conservation
  • Impacts of rising temperatures, temperature-induced moisture on environment and ecosystems - environmental monitoring and geoinformatics
  • Impacts of climate change on glaciation, earth surface processes & river development plans
  • Mega-projects, including hydroelectric projects & interlinking of rivers, vulnerability, safety standards and their pros & cons.
  • Natural resources of the region & the effect of climate on their exploitation
  • Innovative paradigms of mineral resource exploitation and sustainable development in mountain regions.
  • Natural geo-materials of traditional systems of medicine - an interdisciplinary approach
  • The role of geological, geophysical & geotechnological methods in climate change governance
  • Geoheritage & geosites conservation & development as tourist spots
  • Geoscience education & development of grassroots geoscience talent.

Call for Papers

The Scientific Programme will comprise keynote addresses and special invited lectures relevant to the theme / sub-themes of the conference and other pertinent issues. Poster contributions are welcome from all categories of scientists, researchers, students etc. Awards will be presented for the best papers and posters.

Field Trips

Special field trips will be organised to ancient monuments, historical sites and classic geological outcrops; more details in the 2nd Circular.
