Australia is now a major mineral producing and exporting country. Copper, zinc, lead, nickel, gold, silver, iron, manganese, uranium and titanium have all had their booms (and sometimes busts) since the discovery of copper near Adelaide in the early 1840s.
This talk will describe the discovery and development of many of the continent’s major metalliferous deposits such as Kalgoorlie, Broken Hill, Mount Isa and Olympic Dam. Many have been found by prospectors, but their development often required the application of geological insight and some of this will be outlined during the talk.
