The Geological Society Edinburgh Career and Industry Day is an essential meeting place for geoscience students and the geoscience industry. The day will include short career and industry presentations covering different areas of geology and academia.

There will be an exhibition consisting of industry and professional bodies, and higher education institutions promoting MSc and PhD programmes. There will be a CV and careers workshop running alongside the talks, and a drinks reception at the end of the day.

Timings

The 2017 programme will be available shortly. To get an idea of the structure of the day download a copy of the 2016 programme.

Registration

This event is free to attend but delegates are required to register to receive a student manual, free packed lunch and free drink at the drinks reception. There are limited numbers, so places will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Please complete the online registration form by Friday 3 November 2017.

CV and Career Workshops  - Facilitated by Sarah Innes, Careers Service, University of Edinburgh

A CV and Career workshop will run alongside the talks. These will be informal group discussions around what employers look for and how to address that on your CV.  Using geoscience job vacancies as a talking point, this is your chance to share concerns, ask questions & look at your own CV in the context of employer criteria; useful whether you are considering applying for jobs or postgraduate study. One of the main focuses of the sessions will be to look at individual CVs and share information, in order to get informal feedback. Therefore, please ensure that you bring your CV to the session. The workshops will last 20-30 minutes with time for questions.

The CV workshops are now full, but please check availability on the day as there may be some cancellations or no shows. Sarah Innes will also be presenting a lunchtime talk  entitled “Marketing Yourself: Top tips for CVs and applications”. There is no need to pre-book for this, but places will be first come, first served in the lecture theatre.

Sponsorship and Exhibition

There are some sponsorship and exhibition packages available to help showcase your organisation to future Earth Scientists and to promote your industry. Whether you are looking to recruit graduates or simply wish to raise awareness about your industry, then this is a good chance to meet prospective future geoscientists.

Sponsorship

Become a sponsor and you will receive due acknowledgement, with your company logo displayed on prominent promotional event material. This will be seen by thousands of Earth Science undergraduate and postgraduate students in the UK, leading up to the events, so the earlier you book, the more publicity you receive!

You will also have an opportunity to include a company profile in the student handbook, which will be seen by approximately 350 students on the day. Additionally you will be allocated an exhibition space in a prime location within the main exhibition hall on the day, so that you can meet face to face with delegates.
