Raw Materials Empowering Sustainability: Mind the Gap - Minerals and the circular economy

Understanding the core principles of the circular economy, and competing and complementary concepts. Understand enablers and barriers, and appraise prospects for implementation. Explore the interrelationship of CE and mining.

• Understand and compare circular economy ideas to competing and complementary concepts, e.g., linear ‘take-make-dispose’ supply chains, lifecycle assessment, resource extraction efficiency
• Distinguish enablers and barriers to recycling and other circular economy approaches for technology metals, including product design, material dispersion, in-use stocks of materials, recovery technologies and economics, business models, and reverse cycle logistics and infrastructure
• Critically appraise current and future prospects for implementing circular economy approaches
• Explore the role of mining in more circular models, and how circular economy thinking can be integrated into mining
