Professor Peter Styles (Keele University) explored the incidence of induced seismicity and the application of real-time microseismic monitoring in a variety of industrial contexts, including conventional hydrocarbon extraction and coal mining. He set out the conclusions of the recent report he and his co-authors carried out for the Department of Energy and Climate Change on a possible monitoring and management regime for induced seismicity resulting from shale gas extraction.
