Following on from our May field trip to Shap Blue, The North West Regional Geological Society are pleased to invite you to return to Cumbria for our residential field trip around the rest of the Shap area!
We will meet at the Shap Wells Hotel at 10.00am and we will spend Saturday examining the Shap pink quarry, and the contact with the country rocks as well as the turbidites in the Silurian slates.
Dinner in the evening at the Shap Wells Hotel.
Sunday, meet at 10.00am at the Shap Wells Hotel for a visit to the Orton Limestone pavement and the local Permian rocks, before returning home mid afternoon.
Leader
We are excited to announce our guest leader for the trip will be Christine Arkwright. Christine was a geology tutor for the Open University for many years and has led many field trips and study tours in the UK for undergraduate summer schools and adult education courses. She developed a fascination for geology when studying for an OU science degree as a mature student, later obtaining an MSc and PhD in Earth Sciences at Manchester University.

We have arranged group discount rates in the Shap Wells Hotel CA10 3QU: Dinner, bed and breakfast:
- Single room: £67
- 2 people sharing a twin room or double room: £52 per person
- Double or twin room with just 1 person in £80
You are of course free to arrange your own accommodation and just meet us at the hotel!

There are a limited number of single rooms so it’ll be first come first served.
You will need to make an online payment (details will be sent to you in reply to your email) to the Geological Society NWRG to secure your space.
Cost: Room rate (as above) plus donation to the Geological Society of £5 per person

- HIGH VIS
- GOGGLES
