Legend

Use Maps

The Map Room of the Geological Society’s Library contains over 40,000 printed and digital geological maps covering the whole globe. It is one of the most comprehensive collections of geological cartography over the past 200+ years in the UK.

All areas of the world are covered by maps with various geological themes including geophysics, hydrogeology, structural geology and economic geology.  We collect maps down to 1:50,000 scale for Europe and to 1:200,000 for the rest of the world.

Fellows and employees of Corporate Patrons of the Society are welcome to use and borrow maps from our collection either in person or using our postal loans service.

Non-members can also visit the library and Map Room to use the maps on payment of a daily library usage fee.  For more information please go to the 'Visiting the Library' page.

All the maps in our collection are listed and searchable in our online library catalogue.

If you have a more detailed enquiry, a specific area of interest, wish to borrow maps, or for general enquiries, please contact the Map Librarian.
